Bathroom Decorations
From LoveToKnow Interior Design
Bathroom decorations can be used to give your bathroom some flair or to turn into your peaceful retreat away from the world. Whatever kind of bathroom you want, the perfect bathroom decorations will pull the whole look together.
Bathroom Decorations: The Basics
What makes a perfect bathroom accessory? Of course your accessories should complement your interior design style and color scheme, but they should also take into account a few different things. Keep the following questions in mind when picking out decorations for your bathroom:
- Who will be using the bathroom? Bathrooms for children look great when decorated with age appropriate accessories, while an adults only bathroom can go a bit more upscale.
- Is the accessory safe for the room? You don’t want obstructions on the floor that can be tripped over in a small space, shelves that you can bang your head on as you get out of the shower and so on. The size of your bathroom will come into play quite a bit when considering different accessory ideas for your bathroom.
Another great thing to keep in mind when considering bathroom decorations is whether or not there are issues in your bathroom you fix with accessories. You can use decorations to make a small bathroom look bigger, a dark bathroom look brighter or a drab, older bathroom look modern and welcoming.
Bathroom Decorations: Ideas
Need some bathroom decorating inspiration? The following ideas should bring out your creative genius!
Decorations for Small Bathrooms
Small bathrooms are a common problem, especially for people who live in apartments. Use some decorating wizardry to turn your tiny space into a palatial bathroom suite:
- Add some more mirrors to your room. You don’t want to have two mirrors facing each other, but mirrors will add depth to the room. If you have one large, long mirror over the sink and little room for anything else, consider taking that mirror down, replacing it with a smaller one, and then using extra wall space for even smaller mirrors.
- Ditch any dark colors – lighter colors will open the space up. That goes for walls, towels, bath mats, candles, potpourri and any other accessories you choose.
- Use wall shelves to free up floor space.
Peaceful Bathroom
Do you want your bathroom to be your escape place, where you can close the door and soak away your troubles? If you don’t have time for the spa vacation, you can use bathroom decorations to make your room the next best thing:
- Make scents part of your decorating. Think of candles with calming, soothing scents like lavender or vanilla. Have a bowl of potpourri on hand and freshen it with potpourri oil frequently. Fresh flowers can add both welcoming scents and be soothing to the soul.
- A basket filled with fluffy towels and other spa implements like loofahs, a foot polisher, creams and lotion, and face masks not only looks great but ensures you always have your personal stress rescue kit stocked.
- It might be a big investment, but the ultimate decoration for a peaceful bathroom is a dramatic tub. A deep, claw foot tub or a whirlpool tub make great additions to any bathroom.
Children’s Bathrooms
When the bathroom in question is used by a child, a theme is a good starting place for bathroom decorations. Some ideas for themes include:
- Your child’s favorite character
- Beach
- Princess
- Sports
Safety is paramount for children in the bathroom, so make sure none of your decorations can tip over onto small heads or otherwise be an impediment to your child. When choosing a theme, also keep in mind that your child is likely to grow in and out of fads, so if you’re going with the latest character, it’s best to stick with accessories that can easily be removed when your child decides that character is just so passé.
