Bathroom and Bedroom Decorating and Accent
From LoveToKnow Interior Design
Bathroom and bedroom decorating and accents are the keys to making your house into a home. Without your personal touch, your rooms are just empty shells, but add a little bit of your personal style and flair, incorporating your favorite interior design styles with your favorite accessories, and suddenly you have a place that is “you” through and through. The bathroom and bedroom decorating and accent choices you make are also crucial for giving your room the right mood and feel, as well as making it welcoming and comfortable.
Bathroom and Bedroom Decorating and Accent Basics
Your options are endless when it comes to bedroom and bathroom decorating and accessorizing – let your personal interior design style be your inspirational starting point. There are a few basic rules to keep in mind, no matter what your style is, to make your decorating the best that it can be.
Bathroom Decorating and Accents
Much like your kitchen, the bathroom is one room in your house that has to strike a balance between style and functionality. When you’re making decisions about decorating your bathroom, you have to consider who is using the bathroom and the best ways to make the room as user-friendly has possible. For instance, if it is a shared bathroom, you will want to make sure that everyone using the bathroom has adequate storage space for all of their personal things, preferably in the form of a dedicated space for each person, and you will want to try and make sure that the room can be used by two people at once. For instance, maximize the space so someone can be putting on their make-up while someone else is brushing their teeth without getting in each other’s way. Light is another concern when it comes to bathroom decorating. Natural lighting can sometimes be limited in a bathroom, especially as the shades are drawn so often, so you will need to make up for it with lighting that keeps the room bright enough for people to perform their grooming rituals (and flattering enough that they won’t want to run away when they catch a glimpse of themselves in the mirror!).
After these concerns comes the fun stuff – the bathroom accents. When you’re choosing your bathroom accents, keep in mind the feel you want to create for your bathroom. For instance, if you want a nautical theme, seashell accents and maritime themed wall art is a must. If you want a French Country style bathroom, bunches of dried lavender make an ideal addition. When you’re accenting your bathroom design, keep the functionality of the room in the forefront of your mind, and don’t overcrowd the area.

Bedroom Decorating and Accents
Unlike functional rooms, like kitchens and bathrooms, your bedroom is your retreat from the hustle and bustle of the everyday world. The two most important things for you to have in mind when you’re decorating your bedroom are creating a peaceful room and your favorite design styles. The bedroom is the room where you should feel free to let your own personal taste shine through completely, and where you should feel comfortable experimenting a little with design ideas you might not want to carry through the rest of your home.
Whatever the decorating choices you make for your bedroom in terms of style, you can incorporate accents into your bedroom design that make the room more inviting and calming. Scented candles are a great choice for giving your bedroom that “spa retreat” feel you need at the end of a long, hard day, and small water features can bring that peaceful sound of a gently rushing stream indoors to help you unwind. A range of lighting options can also make a bedroom feel more relaxing, so try accenting the room with a few floor and table lamps that give you different options for brightness - brighter lights for reading in bed, softer lighting for just chilling out.
