Burgundy and Gold Living Room
From LoveToKnow Interior Design
Burgundy and gold living rooms represent classic style that you will be able to keep in your home for many years to come. These two rich colors impart a rich and elegant style in your living room and are versatile enough to work with many different design styles.
Living Room Styles
Burgundy and gold living rooms are classic, versatile and elegant, but that doesn’t mean they are for everyone. The question to ask yourself before you settle on burgundy and gold for your living room decor is what kind of living room do you have, or what kind of living room do you want to have? For some people, living rooms are formal affairs. That is the room in which they keep the best furniture, and the room that is off limits for the kids. These formal living rooms usually only get used for special occasions; they’re not the everyday, lounging room for the family.
For other people, however, the living room is just the opposite. For these people, the living room is actually THE place for hanging out together as a family. It is where casual nights in front of the TV take place and where friends gather to play games or socialize. These casual living rooms are the hub of every day family life.
The reason it is important to know which kind of living room you want before making style decisions like settling on burgundy and gold as your color themes is because the colors can make all the difference when it comes to dressing your room up or down. When it comes to burgundy and gold, these colors are most often used for formal living rooms. The colors are striking and rich, and as such, they tend to work the best in rooms with formal furniture and rich atmospheres. Now, that is not to say that you CAN’T use these colors in a more casual living room, but you will have to pay special attention to keeping the atmosphere of the room the way you want it when you’re using colors like these.
Creating Burgundy and Gold Living Room Designs
Burgundy and gold are great choices for living room designs, but they are very strong colors. Use them wisely to avoid overpowering your room – going too heavy with them will make your room feel a little too dark and cold. Give these ideas a try for incorporating burgundy and gold into your living room design:
- Instead of going for solid burgundy or solid gold for large pieces of furniture, look for fabrics that blend the two colors, like burgundy material with gold piping, stripes, or prints.
- Break up the burgundy and gold with punches of other colors. Hunter green makes a nice compliment to burgundy and gold décor, or keep the walls light with taupe or off white paint.
- If you want a very formal feel in your burgundy and gold living room, then select dark wood furniture pieces. If you want to dress things down just a little bit, choose furniture in lighter wood colors.
- If you like burgundy and gold as color choices, but you’re a little hesitant about going all out, you can test the waters a bit with burgundy and gold accessories. These colors make great choices for accessory items, so look for things like lamp shades, pillows, artwork, and more.
- Burgundy and gold window treatments are also excellent choices for a living room. You can easily combine sheaths of the two colors to make everything from valances to drapes.
- For a very strong, formal look, consider burgundy and gold wallpaper. You can find wallpaper that combines these colors in any number of ways, from bold stripes to more subtle patterns.

Try putting a sofa table with a plant on it to separate the two rooms. Or just a potted tree (really nice silk ones for about $75) with accent chairs facing the living room...
-- Contributed by: NinaI have a small home(about 1300 sq. ft.) My living room and dining area is all in one. Right now, my living room is painted a goldish/light mustard color. How can I help seperate the two areas even though they are all one? There is a window at the front of the house that is part of the living room. Also, there is a window by my small kitchen table. Please help!
