Game Room Artwork
From LoveToKnow Interior Design
Choosing game room artwork can be an area where you really let your creative juices flow. The game room is a casual room, a place for fun and whimsy. This gives the decorator a large amount of freedom when it comes to choosing artwork and other decor.
Ideas for Game Room Artwork
You may have finished decorating the whole game room and are having trouble deciding on the right art. Consider items other than pictures to hang on the walls. For example, some of the items that would make interesting wall décor in the game room are:
- Movie posters: Choose your favorite from the vintage black and whites to the colorful poster from your current favorite movie. Depending on the look you are going for, hanging black and white movie posters in a line around that walls can be very striking.
- Game boards: Finally, something you can do with all of those games where most of the pieces are missing. Hang the boards up in the game room on a diagonal for effective wall décor. If you don’t have old games you can pick them up very inexpensively at garage sales and thrift shops. Very old game boards are especially interesting and colorful.
- Vintage posters: If you like retro styles consider getting vintage posters from the 1960s on websites like eBay. While posters by artists like Peter Maxx are often very expensive there are others that are more reasonable.
- Sports memorabilia: The game room is the perfect place for those autographed pictures, baseball card collections and other sports memorabilia.
- Vintage signs: If you like the look of vintage advertising, and especially vintage signs the game room is the place to display it.
- Personal memorabilia: Personal photos, ticket stubs and other memorabilia make perfect game room artwork. Use shadow boxes and other types of frames to make collages and groupings. You can frame your kids’ drawings and add them in to the mix.
Displaying Art in the Game Room
Once you have chosen your theme, or the pieces you are going to use it is time to figure out how to put them up on the walls. Large pieces like posters look best if they are hung in a line rather than in a grouping. Smaller items will look best in groups of five or so, depending on the item. Mix shapes for the most interesting look.
Before you hang the first picture on the wall arrange your artwork on the floor in the pattern that you will want it to be on the wall. Take a good look at it and decide if anything needs to be moved or adjusted. This was you will not do anything permanent to the walls until you are sure of your composition.
Black and white prints can be very striking in a game room, especially if you are going for an Art Deco or contemporary look. If you choose to use posters or other colorful artwork try to maintain a common theme or have some other way to link the images together.
Some of the ways you can do this are:
- Subject- all flowers, for example
- Color- black and white, etc.
- Frames- using the same frame style
