From LoveToKnow Interior Design
Game room designs help you create a family fun space everyone will love. Who needs expensive nights out and trying to find a destination everyone in the family can agree upon? With a family game room, you can save money and have a fun night together any time you want. You might even catch the teens hanging out at home more often! Of course, your house may become the central destination for all of their friends, but that is another story!
Game Room Designs – Ideas and Options for Great Gaming Spaces
First things first – your game room doesn’t HAVE to have a theme. There is nothing wrong with stocking up a room with a few favorite games and just making it a laid back space for having fun. Of course, if you have the designing bug, themed game rooms can be one of the most enjoyable design projects you ever undertake. This is the one room in the house you can really throw all convention out the window and just let your imagination take off. Who cares if it matches the rest of the house? Just have a good time! Here are some ideas to get you going:
Poker Room
Get a weekly card game started with a poker room! Poker rooms don’t require a huge investment. You can with a Vegas theme or simply a bar room feel, but with a few bits of furniture and accessories, you’ll have a poker player’s paradise.
A poker table is your major investment when you are creating a poker room. There is no need to invest in a professional, casino style table. Lower end poker tables do the job just fine. Simply look for a table with padded armrests and a felt top to make dealing a breeze, and you are ready to go. Folding chairs will work, or you can invest in some office style chairs with arms to go along with your table.
Add some poker inspired artwork and bar lights, and you’re ready to get the regular poker crew together!
Retro Board Game Room
Do your kids think that all games are played on the TV or the computer? Show them how things used to be with a retro, board game inspired room. You might be surprised how quickly they take to the games, and as a bonus, you’ll have dragged them away from their electronic gadgets temporarily!
There are a few different directions you can take a board game room. Of the utmost importance is having plenty of comfortable seating around a gaming table, and of course, a good game selection makes all the difference. You can simply go for some casual, sturdy furniture for everyone to flop around on, or you can take things a step further by letting one of your favorite games inspire your décor. A bright Candyland themed room, a room inspired by the mansion in Clue – the possibilities are endless!
Table Games Room
Do you love hitting up all of the table games when you go out for a drink? Invest in an air hockey table, pool table, dart board and other bar games, and let these fun accessories be the central point of the room. Add a scoreboard to the wall, some bar lighting and seats for people waiting for their turn to relax in, and you’ve got a space more fun than your favorite watering hole! Even better, the kids can actually come in and enjoy the games too.
Other ideas for game room themes include:
- Karaoke
- Sports teams/sports
- Movie memorabilia
- Jukebox
Of course, a wet bar, a mini fridge and plenty of comfortable lounging space is a must for any game room.
