Interior Decorating: Bedrooms
From LoveToKnow Interior Design
Interior decorating: bedroom ideas can help take your bedroom from just someplace you happen to lay your head at night to someplace that you love to come home to. Your bedroom is the one room in your house in which you can really charge your batteries and have some “me” time, and it is also that room in which you step outside of the box a little bit design-wise and experiment with some new looks and ideas you might not want to carry through the whole house. If you need some help getting your bedroom décor off the ground, we have plenty of ideas to get those creative juices flowing.
Interior Decorating: Bedrooms – The Design Basics
Interior decorating gets a lot of people stressed out, and that’s understandable. After all, you want to create a room that you love and that will be inviting. But here’s the good news – there really is only one way to mess up a design project, and that is go headlong into it without any planning. Keep track of these basics and you’ll be sure to pull off a bedroom decorating home run:
- The Budget – Sure, it would be great not to have to worry about it, but the sky is definitely not the limit for most interior decorating projects. Come up with an idea of how much you can realistically spend. This will help you figure out what kind of decorating you can do – for instance, if need to stick to some simple changes or if you can go all out with paint, bedding and more. Oh, and the most important part of the budget? Stick to it!
- The Theme - No, your bedroom doesn’t have to look like it was kitted out for a toddler’s birthday party, but having a basic theme or interior design style in mind will help you narrow down your shopping choices and focus your plan. Think along the lines of French Country style, modern style design or your favorite style – just something to give yourself a guideline.
- The Room Size – Room size will help you determine things like colors (dark colors make rooms look smaller), accessories (mirrors and lighting can make a small room look bigger) and furniture size (fit to scale).
If you are going to be buying new furniture, don’t forget to take measurements before you hit the shops!
Interior Decorating: Bedrooms – Ideas
Need some ideas to kick off your new bedroom interior decorating project? Consider the following:
- Safari Themed Bedroom – Bring the romance and exotic styles of an African safari home to your bedroom with this bright, simple and airy design style. The emphasis is on natural materials like rattan and wicker, dark wood, billowing white sheets and splashes of animal prints.
- Country French Style Bedroom – Feel like you’re on vacation in the French countryside when you go to bed every night with this design style for bedrooms. A four poster bed is a good place to start, then bring in the colors of rural France with foamy greens, white washed wood, yellow and rusty red. Lavender is a must – dried springs, fresh lavender, lavender scented candles – however you want to bring it in (and as an added benefit, lavender is known to be calming and to encourage sleep!).
- Romantic Style Bedroom – There are a few different ways you can inject a romantic feel into your boudoir. You can choose light colors, floral designs, lace and ruffles, or you can opt for drama with deep colors and jewel tones. Use lighting to your advantage by adding lamps so you can keep the lights soft. You’ll want to tread carefully with romantic styles – a little can go a long way, or you could cross into girly territory. Use a light hand – remember, you can always add more touches later.

Sometimes it is hard to decide your style. I tell my friends check out magazines and books to see what you like. Usually out of all the things you like a theme or common look emerges. To me the best place to start in redoing your bedroom is to find new bedding you like. Search local stores to see if they have your style or something that catches your eye. Check on line stores too. My favorite one to pass on is elegantlinenspc.com. They have a variety of quality bedroom and bathroom linens. I personally use their products in my home. Once you have the bedding fabric it is a piece of cake from there. Choose your paint colors from the colors in your fabric, add your artwork, a new rug, some accessories and pillows and you have a brand new room
