Interior Design for Playrooms
From LoveToKnow Interior Design
Finding a space for kids to call their own will naturally lead to interior design for playrooms. Almost any open space can be converted a playroom area for children. Consider adapting a den, spare bedroom, attic space, loft, basement, or one side of the large bedroom. With a place to store all their toys and gadgets, kids will make more of an effort to keep the playroom picked up. Also, this separate play space will contain all the toys in one central location and leave the bedroom just for sleeping.
Playroom Basics
The most important features of an efficient playroom design are accessibility, storage, and organization. The room must be functional and accessible for those who will use it the most. This means that furniture pieces should be scaled-down to easily accommodate children’s daily activities. Interior design for children is an opportunity to have fun while also integrating versatile items which are durable and that will be utilized often.
Storage units should also be effortlessly accessed by the kids, so that they can put away their own toys and quickly clean up after playtime. Seek out wall units that will utilize your wall space while leaving ample play area in the middle of the room. Use a combination of open and closed storage shelves for a cleaner look. Baskets, bins, and tubs can be used on the open shelves for better organization. As you add storage pieces around the room’s perimeter, incorporate a few storage benches so there is extra seating in the playroom.
Look for flexible furniture and storage units that can accommodate multiple children and grow with the kids as their needs change. Multipurpose pieces (like storage benches) are the wisest investments because they serve more than one function in the room. Another tip is to incorporate workstations for activities such as crafts, reading, drawing, painting, and dress-up. Lighting is another top priority in any playroom design. Make sure there is a mixture of natural light or general ambient lighting along with proper task lighting for workstations and reading.
Other Ideas for Interior Design for Playrooms
Popular additions to playrooms include dance floors, stages, and puppet theaters. This allows children’s imaginations to come alive as they perform and remain actively engaged. Older children will like the idea of television viewing in the playroom along with comfortable seating options. Video gaming consoles are sure to be a hit along with traditional game room fixtures like foosball, ping pong, and air hockey.
Chalkboard paint can be used on any wall or large cabinet for an instant and reusable drawing spot. A fun new alternative is Peel & Stick Chalkboard from Wallies®. These vinyl chalkboard panels come in four colors and come with four 9" x 12" panels per pack. The repositionable panels can be placed on almost any smooth, clean surface for infinite possibilities. Stick them together for one large chalkboard or split them up for use by multiple children at once.
For a multi-use space, try a room divider on casters or a floating storage unit that will divide the space into two distinct areas. This can be helpful with interior design for playrooms involving multiple children of different age groups and interests. A split playroom design is also great for partitioning the room into areas for playing, studying, napping, and quiet time.

I love the playroom with the sun as the face for the clock. Could you tell me where to purchase the clock or who made it? Thanks!
