Introducing Martha Stewart Furniture

Martha Stewart has always been the home goddess and style icon. Many of her television shows and books were filmed at her homes in the Northeastern United States. We've watched her make wreathes from eggs collected at Turkey Hill; stencil floors at her beach house on Long Island and create warm, inviting décor accessories at her stone house in Maine.

In the late 90s, Martha stepped into the world of home furnishings and started to make her home décor style elements affordable and achievable. Her linens and home wares became available at Kmart. She worked with Sherman Williams and then Lowe's to create paint colors and she lent her name to a series of suburban home designs by Kaufman Broad.

Outdoor furniture was introduced as part of the home collection designed for Kmart. Several years later, the Martha Stewart Signature Collection was introduced with several collections of moderately-priced, traditionally-styled home furnishings.

The Kmart Martha Stewart Outdoor Collection

Several styles of coordinated outdoor furniture are available at Kmart, most featuring glass top tables, upholstered, weather-resistant chairs and umbrellas. The tables are also sold separately in a wide range of prices. The tables are manufactured in Taiwan by JRA Furniture. There have been complaints since 1999 of some of the glass table tops spontaneously shattering. Martha Stewart and Kmart report that they have solved the problem that was causing the shattering. Consumers have reported having problems collecting on their product warranty since JRA declared bankruptcy. Consumers can contact Kmart directly at 866-562-7848 for more information.

Martha Stewart Signature Collections

Martha Stewart Signature furniture is a partnership with Bernhardt Furniture Company. The line of furniture was introduced in 2003 with three collections – Lily Pond, Skylands and Turkey Hill. All three collections were traditional styles designed to emulate the furniture and styles in Martha Stewart's homes in the Northeast.

The line was expanded in 2005 with the introduction of the Opal Point collection and in 2007 with the introduction of the Katonah collection.

Lily Pond

This collection is casual, simple styling combined with soft, easy-to-live-with painted finishes in a sea-friendly color ranges. Living room, dining room and bedroom furniture were designed for a relaxing atmosphere similar to Martha's 19th-century beach house. The overall feel is very light and breezy with casually-styled, color-washed furniture.

Skylands

The Skylands collection was inspired by Martha's 1925 stone house in Maine. It includes living room, dining room and bedroom furniture. The overall feel of the collection is of elegance and naturalism. The colors are deep and the materials are rich in texture. The furniture style is somewhat eclectic but very elegant. It includes rich embellishments in the fabrics and wood tones.

Turkey Hill

Turkey Hill was named after Martha's 1805 Connecticut farmhouse where she has lived for over thirty years and from which many Martha Stewart television shows were produced. The furniture in the collection includes pieces for living rooms, dining rooms, home offices and bedrooms. The living room furniture is designed to provide family and entertaining functionality in a great room setting. The goal of the collection is to provide a friendly setting that is also practical.

Opal Point

This collection takes a more contemporary turn and takes its design Influence from the informal luxury of the West Coast. The furniture is simple in design, combining a modern functionality with informal luxury. The furniture has streamlined shapes, useful conveniences and fun details. It is probably the most eclectic of the Martha Stewart furniture collections, combining luminous metal finishes, glossy lacquers, special veneers, Art Deco and Asian themes, mother-of-pearl and painted glass accents.

Katonah

The Katonah collection is named after a relatively new Martha Stewart residence in New York, a restored 1925 farmhouse. The furniture combines Chippendale and Queen Anne furniture styles with rich wood finishes to create a slightly formal feel to a room. The collection incorporates rich wood finishes with highly functional features such as specialized storage drawers and organizers and uniquely-designed, hand-painted details.

Upholstered Furniture

All Martha Stewart furniture collections include assortments of sofas, love seats, armchairs, chaise lounges and ottomans available in many choices of upholstery colors and fabrics.

Where to Buy

The store locator reflects that the collections are available throughout the United States at major retailers such as Macy's. The items can also be seen in full-color catalogs that show each of the items in the collections. The catalogs show the furniture in a variety of room settings and are designed to trigger design ideas. Catalogs also contain measurements and details of both furniture and upholstered pieces.
