Peel and Stick Carpet

Carpet Tiles

Peel and stick carpet tiles are an easy and budget friendly solution for adding carpet to any room. Installation is a snap, and you can mix and match to suit your tastes.

About Peel and Stick Carpet Tiles

Peel and stick carpet tiles are exactly what they sound like - they are squares of carpet with an adhesive strip on the back that you can peel off and stick onto your floor. They are designed not to unravel, so you can cut them to the size you need without worrying about frayed ends.

There are several benefits to using peel and stick carpet tiles, including:

  • The adhesive on peel and stick tiles does not damage the floor underneath, so you can use them over hard wood floors and other types of flooring while leaving the option open of returning to the original flooring. This is handy if you want to put carpeting down on your hard wood floors while you have a baby crawling around or have another need for temporary carpeting.
  • Peel and stick carpeting saves time and money. You do not have to pay for installation, as these tiles are simple enough for anyone to use themselves. Likewise, your new carpet will be finished as quickly as you can lay the tiles. The tile squares are often made of remnants, so it less expensive than buying other kinds of carpet.
  • Carpet tiles allow you to come up with the perfect carpet design for your décor. You can mix and match tile colors to create any design or pattern you want on the floor.

One drawback to keep in mind about peel and stick squares is that the seams between the squares will always be visible. If people look closely, they will be able to tell that your carpet is made of these tiles.

How to Install Peel and Stick Carpet Squares

If you are ready to put your carpeting plans into action, here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Measure the space to be carpeted. As a general rule of thumb, buy 15 percent more carpet than you think you will need for the space so you are prepared in case there are any problems during installation.
  • Clear all the furniture from the space and clean the floor thoroughly. Any dirt on the floor will interfere with the adhesive strip.
  • Locate the center point of the room and divide the room into four quadrants.
  • Put carpet tiles down quadrant by quadrant. Take one carpet tile, peel the paper off the back and press it down on the floor. The way you lay the tiles will depend on the design you are trying to create. If you need help keeping the tiles straight, use a straight edge or ruler. Repeat until all of the carpet tiles are laid. You will likely have to cut the tiles closest to the wall off to make them fit. Don't allow manufacturer's edges to touch.

Your carpet is ready to be walked on as soon as you have finished laying it.
