Advice (2)
well, i would suggest something modern like:
* cream colored furniture
* animal printed rugs or furniture (but not both at the same time)
* glass tables
* those kind of lamps where you can touch them and they turn on
* flat screen TV (only if you have enough money for it though)
that's my opinion if you would go modern, so try it out if you would probably like it! :)
Hello Norien,
When deciding on the type of design you want for your family room, there are some key points you will want to consider such as:
- What decorating style will work with the rest of your home's style? (i.e., traditional, rustic, contemporary, retro, modern, etc.)
- What will the room be used for?
- What architectural features would you like to enhance or make use of?
- What is your budget for a remodel or redesign of the room?
A family room should be a warm, welcoming, comfortable space where you can enjoy spending quality time with family and friends. It's also a space where you can show off some of your own personality and creativity through your choice of furnishings and decor.
Naturally, one of the most important things you will want to include in a family room is a functional conversation area. If the room has a fireplace, this makes an excellent place to create your conversation area. A large window with a scenic view would be another good choice.
If you don't have either of these features in your family room, you may want to create a fun space to enjoy movies, play video games or play board games. In this case, you may want to incorporate things like a home theater system, a large coffee table and plenty of comfortable seating options. If you have a family of avid bookworms, you may want to include a couple of bookcases and extra table or floor lamps around sofas, chairs or loveseats for a comfortable reading space.
You could also use a bookcase or a hutch for extra storage space in your family room if you enjoy crafting, knitting, sewing or scrapbooking.
As for decorating your family room, you can add things like pillows and decorative throws to chairs and sofas. Choose bright colors, interesting patterns and rich textures. Drapes and area rugs will add warmth and a designer touch.
Add a few colorful vases with fresh flowers, silk flowers or dried arrangements. Use framed artwork or photographs for wall displays. Install extra shelves to display knickknacks or collectibles. Add some greenery to the room with indoor potted plants.
If the room is small or poorly lit, mirrors will help reflect light and add the illusion of extra space.
If you have pets that are part of your family, make sure your flooring and furniture are pet friendly. Choose furniture with durable upholstery that won't be easily damaged by doggie or kitty nails.
