Colleges usually ask for a portfolio when you're applying for an interior design major. It doesn't mean you need to have a portfolio full of project that you obviously don't have the knowledge to produce. They are looking for your creative and passion for the arts, design, architecture, and you can show that thru drawings, sketches, paintings, photography, collages, etc. It doesn't need to be perfect by any means...after you are done with the program, then you will have to produce a real portfolio with projects you made in school.

Do you have any advice for a first portfolio? I need to make a portfolio for a college I am interested in, how do I make a portfolio if I am not hired as an interior design or intern anywhere?

Thank you so much for the information on creating an interior design portfolio. I am an interior decorator looking to work in an interior design firm and I know this will help me.
