I am very interested in interior design and party planning but not sure where to start. I have seen schools online but don't really see a course that has both above. Can you help me or direct me to where I can find something like that. I have always loved to go above and beyond in a space and especially for parties and so on. Every one always comes to me when they are planning or something or trying to change their place. I would love to start a business of my own. Please advise thanks!

Hi Kathi - Even if you don't want to pursue a degree, taking a few classes would be your best bet to learn the basics. I'm not sure which of those schools offer distance learning programs or if you live near any of the schools you listed, but it would defintely be worth checking out a class or two. Some schools will let you learn from home at your own pace, which can be a good option if you're busy and need the freedom to set your own schedule. Your local community college can also be a good resource for taking some basic design courses. Good luck!

I am interested in interior design as more of a hobby. I have a full time job with 2 children at home ages 11 and 13 and 2 grown children ages 22 and 27. I really want to learn the "basics" and then some. I live in a small town so the demand for interior designers are very slim if any. However, people come to my house and love the ideas I have, the colors I use, etc. and want my opinion and help with their house. I would like to be able to do that knowing more about color, furniture, textures, etc. to offer better ideas. I have received information from Sheffield, Penn Foster, Wildwood and Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I am confused however which would fit what I am interested in doing without going overboard. I am not looking for a degree (I don't think) since I am not going to start my own business, work for contractors or any type of a design firm. I am only searching for more knowledge in something I am very interested in and can use to assist others in their decorating. Do you have any suggestions? I would very much appreciate your input.
