Don't forget as well the finished feel you want. For instance, if you want a luxury feel, you'll want to think about fabrics that help you get that feel, such as silk bedding and natural fibres.

I found my starting point in redoing our bedroom by falling in love with this bedding set called Brielle Daphne by Sferra. (You can see a pix of it at elegant linensPC com, look under the Sferra tab) I knew I wanted my room to feel very elegant and romantic and when I saw this picture I knew this was it. Everything else I did was around this bedding. I found a great area rug that worked well for the other colors I wanted to use, mainly neutrals and a tiny bit of coral. We painted the walls a soft taupe from the colors in the rug. It was so easy to coordinate all of the extra pillows, lamps and artwork after that. I like the fact that my bed set is neutral in color that means I can change things up a bit with the accents if I get bored.
